TENDER OF THE WEEK

Impacts of development & climate change on aquatic ecological assets

Tenders.Net Ref.#: 641433

Tender Details: NWC01/2010 - Assessing the likely impacts of development on aquatic ecological assets in Northern Australia
APP Reference 01/2010
The National Water Commission and the Department of the Environment, Water, Heritage and the Arts (the Department) require the provision of expert consultancy services to conduct a detailed desktop analysis of the likely impacts of development and climate change on key aquatic ecological assets (the Assets) in northern Australia. The research project will cover each of the key surface and groundwater systems and basins within the Timor Sea and Gulf of Carpentaria drainage divisions, and that part of the North East Coast drainage division north of Cairns.
The project will deliver a report that:
- Describes the surface- and ground-water regimes and ecological processes of the key ecological Assets with due consideration of the groundwater/surface water interactions and system wide issues;
- Assesses and models the likely impacts (including cumulative) of possible development and climate change on the key ecological Assets;
- Identifies thresholds of ecological concern for these Assets; and
- Where relevant, makes recommendations for the management and monitoring of likely human-related impacts facing the Assets.
Outcomes from this project will contribute to the Ecological component of the Northern Australia Water Futures Assessment (NAWFA), an Australian Government program jointly delivered by the Department of the Environment, Water, Heritage and the Arts (DEWHA) and the National Water Commission (the Commission).
